Turning a Flawed Divorce Process Into a Fast Resolution

July 2025

Will County Illinois Divorce Court

From Mishandled to Mastered – Joliet Divorce Success

Our client entered her short marriage with significant premarital assets and while married made significant marital contributions, but when the marriage ended, her spouse's attorney, while acting with good intentions, encountered difficulties due to limited divorce law experience. Concerned about protecting her rights, she turned to Birt Family Law—and was glad she did.

The Situation

Our client and her wife were married only a few years, but each brought significant assets into the marriage, including retirement accounts, pensions, vehicles, and cash investments. When they decided to divorce, our client's spouse—while well-meaning—relied on a close confidant for legal help. Unfortunately, that attorney had little to no experience in divorce law.

The Concern

Our client was understandably hesitant to sign any documents prepared by her soon-to-be ex's attorney. She wanted to ensure her financial rights were fully protected and that all necessary disclosures and court procedures were followed.

Our Role

When we reviewed the initial documents, it was clear the process had been flawed from the start. Important assets were missing from disclosures, and the legal paperwork was incomplete. We respectfully “turned the train around,” heavily revising all documents and preparing the additional filings needed to move the case forward correctly.

The Approach

We worked directly with the spouse's attorney in a nonconfrontational, solutions-focused manner. This approach fostered trust and avoided unnecessary conflict. Over the summer, we persuaded the other side to provide complete disclosures, ensured all documents met court standards, and secured an expedited hearing—successfully finalizing the divorce at the very first court date.

The Result

Our client's Joliet, Illinois divorce was resolved quickly, her rights were fully protected, and the process remained professional and efficient from start to finish. She was so pleased with the outcome that she sent us a thank-you note—a rare and deeply appreciated gesture in the divorce world.

Our Commitment

At Birt Family Law, we welcome working with any couple, at any level of conflict, and with attorneys of any experience level. No matter the circumstances, we ensure our clients' rights are protected and the process runs smoothly, in full compliance with court procedures.
