Welcome to Birt Family Law
Thank you for choosing Birt Family Law.
I'm honored to assist you during this important time. My goal is to provide practical legal guidance, clear communication, and a structured process that helps you make informed decisions and move your case forward efficiently.
Thank you for placing your trust in me.
You may notice that some of my legal documents refer to "The Law Firm of Erin N. Birt, P.C." That is the firm's legal name. Birt Family Law is the name I use in my day-to-day practice because it better reflects my focus on serving families.
What Happens Next?
Karen or I will review your signed agreement and payment, then contact you to schedule any necessary meetings and discuss the next steps in your matter.
In the meantime, this page will help you know what to expect.
How I Work
My practice focuses on helping families resolve parenting, financial, and legal issues as efficiently as possible. Whenever appropriate, I prioritize settlement-based negotiations and practical solutions that help families avoid unnecessary court involvement.
Your signed Agreement governs my representation and should be your primary reference regarding fees, communication, billing, and the scope of services.
To get started, you can expect to meet with Karen to discuss her role, the Clio for Clients Portal, document sharing, and scheduling. You will then meet with me for your first working meeting, typically 30 minutes. After that, meetings may be scheduled by telephone for shorter discussions or by Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or in person for 30- or 60-minute meetings, depending on your needs.
My Research-Informed Process
My representation includes proprietary educational materials, books, worksheets, and structured decision-making tools.
These resources are designed to help you:
- Prepare for meetings
- Organize important information
- Make informed decisions
- Use attorney or mediation time more efficiently
Please actively use these resources throughout your matter.
Preparing for Meetings
You can make meetings more productive by:
- Completing any requested worksheets or exercises
- Gathering requested financial documents
- Keeping notes or questions between meetings
- Reviewing materials sent before appointments
Preparation often saves time and legal fees.
Communication & Billing
Karen or I will respond as promptly as possible during normal business hours.
Invoices are generally sent monthly in accordance with your Agreement. Please refer to your signed Agreement regarding billing, payment policies, trust replenishments, and communication expectations.
You can learn more about payment methods, including checks, cash, online payments, and available payment plans, by visiting our Payment Page.
